Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Jungo Kawanami

Jungo kawanami, you were in pain on August 9  
The nuclear bomb had hit and it was your birthday
You saw man in pain and agony, you saw a pain that              
No human should bare to see, that no human should      
Experience but you did on the day after your birthday
You saw this pain, you felt it but from this graphic
Experience you should pull out one thing, the gift
Of life , this gift was the greatest thing that was
Granted to you on your days of pain, the gift of life.
