The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
a paper crane rests slanted on a shard of broken glass near an abandoned house and a forest of worn trees weathered and slightly crumpled the crane endures another storm the rain weeps for the shattered dreams the wind howls over the lost and the forgotten but the delicate crane remains resilient, resilient, hopeful that the red sun will rise again and enlighten the darkened land.
