The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
The same as any other day, A blinding light filled the sky, Taking lives, leaving others to pay; As the planes pass by. We will, will these planes to cease fire, For it is a time of peace. To connect to one another like wire, So don't tease when I say put your weapons down please. That horrid day is history, But the affects last longer than we expect. How they continue, to others, will be a mystery, So let's not throw hateful threats, pet. Let us put down our bombs, guns, and fists; So let us be at peace, and just enjoy the gentle morning mist.
