Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

What we want peace to be like

Let there be peace to the world

Let there be peace and never war

We want to hear laughter

And see beautiful smiles

We want our friends and family

To have everyday a great day

War means nothing to us, it will

Soon fade away

But peace will always stay the same

Violence is never the answer

War is never a solution to problems

We all want peace and freedom

We all want to feel like we live

In a perfect society

Will that ever happen?

Who knows, as long as

every living thing on earth is peaceful,

Nothing can break that apart.
