Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

'Clouds! and Rain'

Milky clouds, peaceful rain
Suddenly replaced by
Smog of reaper, inky drops
Covering the city

Laughter, giggle, mindless chatters
Abruptly replaced by
Cries, groans, voices remain muted
Resounding trough

The city turned into a burnt ruin
What is not changed is
The sound of a train
Carrying the wounded, dying
