The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
In the eyes of Yoshie Yokoyama 50 years after the bombing A few minutes after 11 o’ clock, The atomic bomb blew up my block. I’m sure it hit many other places, including some glass that was cut on faces. I am so angry inside about the bomb, It later affected my relatives, me and my mom. 10 days after the incident occurred, my poor dear sister passed away thanks to glass and cowards. Looking back 50 years later, The atomic bomb did not do any favors. Though my sister still passed away due to glass and tears, I still have her in my heart every day even after 50 years.
