The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
LET ALL THE PAINS GO AWAY! I stand on the roof of the horizon, And I feel the fear, smell the tears; Thickly in the air is unrest and worry rising, In a world without peace and with so much cares. I see I, as well as us, living our normal life, Living, working, playing and laughing, Yet I see another group of us, bringing up strife, Our living, working, playing and laughing thereby terminating. So I say to the other group of us, And also to all that all the us do constitute, "Let us all ride as kings, with Peace our horse, And with dogged determination our projects of peace execute." So that us, with I, on the roof of the horizon can stand And see, feel, smell Peace, everywhere, as numerous as the sand.
