Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Cherry Blossom

The color red has been exposed
Covering the land throughout Japan
The people looked throughout the scene
Taking every image again and again

Devastation has yet to come
As a world war began to arise
Plans of destroying the small beautiful country
That was created from the allies

As the people of japan continued their errands,
They began to look at the bright blue skies
A noise that began to irritate their ears
Like a slaughterhouse buzzing with flies

The day began to fill with silence
The cherry blossoms with their red flashes
But all the memories has washed away
An explosion occurred
Leaving them into ashes.
