Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The search for god to stay
A place of choice to find
From glorious hilltop heights
Unto fresh air of forests

Where there be no boundary
Only barricades of cacti form
To stop petals that be blown
Laced with some poisonous pollen

Where liberty flows free
In meandering brooks of fear forgotten
To sequin careless nights that be
In cascades of bohemian fashion

Where phantoms do not scare
And thoughts seldom torment
Those haunting memories
In twitches of unnecessary repentance

Where lanterns of love light
Flickering flames of serendipity
And fragrance of flower fill
Domains of those vacuous diversity

Where time stops awhile
Besotted by a new world order beholden
For pleasure epicurean it may
Mummify memories golden

To tantalize death where
It juggle up a seeming cemetery
For epitaph of mind really
It engrave one timeless history...

Turn o'er a new leaf
From fragments
To pull on anew
A road of fresh breath

Sneaky sounds rustle past
Bid somber adieu a wave last
With a voyage long carried
Whither gone the wind

Can not get them
Again with us
Try as we may
The lost luster

Branches to bear
Aflutter o'er fallen leaves
Spring to roll
Life in between

While they sleep
In their restful silence
They made sure
We remember...
