The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
There was once an island at war And the bombs we dropped, caused our hearts to sore All of the innocent lives lost Can we ever pay the price? No life is priceless, there will never be a cost What about all the starving children, exposed to radiation? Did we have to end the war this way, For all the bodies that lay We can never ever repay
