The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Burning bodies all around, no sound To hear upon the ground All because of one bomb To take many lives away Which lead their families to stray? Buildings falling everywhere People lived and people died Bubbling skin coming off Running screaming in sacredness Sorrow today and sorrow tomorrow Forever the sickness, pain, and bad memory That someone else caused For every person, what a bad minded person Causing all this This memory will stick with us forever
