Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

War No More

I can’t imagine the horror of that day

Terror and devastation everywhere

I don’t know what to say

How could you not care?

Fire and ashes fell that day

Cries filled the air

Little children couldn’t find their way

Such horrible things after that white glare

War shouldn’t be the answer

It doesn’t solve a thing

It’s just as deadly as cancer

Let the bells of peace ring

We are all part of the same race

That’s the human race!
