Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

A bomb that killed many,

Left others with nothing but fear.

Took homes and family members,

In a great despair.

Air-raid alarms going on and off.

Children practicing many drills.

Families running to Air-raid shelters.

Almost everybody is injured and ill

Once the bombs are finished falling.

Families come out to look around.

What they see is a shock to many.

Hibakusha is what they found.
