The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
The Haunting of a Little Boy and a Fat Man We look back to the day When the black rain came down And the heat scorched The day When a massive smoke cloud of despair produced phantoms That enveloped the people Who would be followed by their haunting For the remainder of their miserable lives Plagued by the ghosts of the Little Boy And the Fat Man That took the lives Of mothers Fathers Brothers And sisters Scarring the survivors of their wrath As we look back today We wonder How causing so much pain Led to the end Of the conflict
