Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

When shall peace arrive?
The sleepless nights and empty feelings
What has this world come to?
As power, greed, and segregation dominate the world
Mother Nature would not care when it’s done.
We start to grow less intelligent
When mankind went mad and violent
It gives us little chance to show worth in peace
August 6th and 9th shall never be forgotten

Endless amounts of deaths, injuries, sicknesses
We shall not damage one another
For there is only a short amount of time
To cherish and love what the world has to offer
No one seems to realize how technology can have awful negatives
How fast things can be created without careful thoughts
Taking action would help and stop these terrible, terrible ideas
These doings should come to an end before it gets worse.
