Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Come Home to this Song

Will you spank me in the face
When all I do is look away?
But you brought me down too soon and never could I pace.
My wish as my eyes and mind turn behind; that it would be a day;
That there would be many more days,
With my father,
And not him alone;
With my mother,
For them to be my own.
But our days away you whisk,
Leaving nothing but scars.
But now, I dare to take a risk,
To sing to you a song of embrace, on a night ablaze with stars
