The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
There is a storm brewing,And it rocks me to my core. And to my knees I may crash,But I shall do so no more. From their guns a-marching,With their defeaning sounds. To the earth shattering silence, When their bombs strike the ground. There is a storm brewing, and it is knocking on my door. With a vengeance much greater, than those of yore. But their hands will quiver, and their weapons shall drop, When my voice hollers out, "This violence must stop". There was a storm brewing, Along with the winds of war. But where there was pain, brooding,There shall be no more. For I used to wonder out loud,And ask why I live, But now I am proud,That it is to forgive.
