Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

"Peace!" my mother's mother cries
"End war!" and "ban the bomb!"
"End the senseless bloodshed now!"
   "Stop killing!" shouts my mom.
All us Smiths are pacifists ~
   my grandpa, dad and niece,
Cousins, uncles nephews, aunts
   we only fight for Peace!
"End all war!" is my demand
   and, passing the baton,
   I'll teach my children well
and proudly watch them carry on.
