Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The children singing and playing,
Not knowing something cold was headed for them,
Not doubting if this could be the last day,
Wondering if the ball thrown up high will ever reach their hands,
But ending up as a painting on the wall,
And all life and peace perished away,
A cold, frightening event,
Nothing left but worries, pain and fear,
Not knowing what might happen,
The Atomic bomb has changed their lives forever,
But they will never forget,
No matter what
