Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

That was a harsh sigh
heard at the marsh of a battle
between black wolves and the white cattle
rising out to the gray sky

the ashes of war today
still running through the air
God and devil playin' truth or dare
and dead bodies left far away

sun is hiding somewhere high
breeze of a wet-dust is smelt again
here she cries "it's not the rain,
tears of the sun, that means why"
