Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

I am normal.
i experience normal days
What i have encountered is not a normal thing

An explosion, that's what they say it was.
They say it was so bright you couldn't have missed it
But i wish i did,

The explosion did much worse then i thought.
it took my family away from me.
all you need to be happy is family
but how can i be happy with out a family

I am no longer considered a normal person.
i go by as now a hibakusha.
