The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Peace Under Your Feet those round metal manhole covers are made of melted-down guns confiscated by the cops from criminals who made holes in humans picture rusted bandaids on the open wounds of the city man is who who holes up somewhere cramped in the din of his own weaponry it is the fallacy of murder to believe it's not your head to which every gun is held an invention by grotesque minds that can turn a murder into a door to a sewer a man into blown scrap a hole in our thinking which dare not be left open less we fall into it like stars buckling under their own light the last place to look right under your feet
