Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Old and young, in despair moan
Of the pure and innocence, forever gone.
A world we live, now in time
A humanity, on a path so grime.
A tussle for power, a greed for more
A relation betray, a soul pierced to core
Dreams small, in agony shatter
Bodies in ashes, burn and scatter,
The right to peace, an elusive matter.
Bleeding heart of mine
Wishes in constant whine,
For a heart, pure ‘n simple
A society, stand in single
A region, cultures varied mingle
A country, diverse in unity shingle
A universe, sans boundaries cringle.
Oh...a wish so small, a desire tingle
Faith and hope, strive to jingle.
