Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Away from home
Crashed and thrashed in between the lanes
They were made to witness the boundless pains
Looking at each soul ripped apart on the streets
This world is a fairyland for all but cheats

Away from peace, away from harmony
Away from life, away from symphony
Some of them died, Some of them bruised
Some of them survived, Some of them bemused

A clear sky up ahead, a moment yet to be defined
Only hope can take hibakusha to the place where they are confined.
With help from every nation, we aspire to eradicate all the negative signs
Let’s make this world a better place to in by inculcating
    positive thoughts in our minds!!!
