The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
We were of the Winter In the Summer, The locusts had our wheat I do not leave anything for you I've given you the perfume of spikes ... And pajamas of the desert To the wind I'm here with memories of nakedness Let my tears postpone For the harvest season And the beheaded wheat When locusts invaded in swarm Winter was our season The season of horses in heat Summer harvesting season blood of my fellows I do sacrifice Until your dreams Is full of kites and pigeons and songs With no smell of gunpowder and burned livers Blessed your world With peace and liberty
