Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

a sunray
on the ruins of a bombed town
a new life
a dead eye
gazing at the sky
burned city
August day
a plane above the city
bringing screams and pain
a destroyed city
in a tear of a small child
submerged moon
a flash of sunshine
among dead people
on the shards of glass
August bombing
the sound of the blast
even today
