The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Hibakusha, no more thoughts on war Our differences do matter, but our common humanity matters more. What scores of sacred scriptures could not, can't be brought in by a verse either; nor there is any need for a miracle. If we could turn our eyes within us, we can see peace lay bound with fetters of ignorance from time immemorial. Alas, when will we learn to stop building monuments of our evil deeds? Not God, but we are the saviours of humanity, provided we set free the peace from within each of us and transform this world into a heaven of human beings.
