The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
A poem for Africa They are standing And Singing a song The own thick lips Thick eyebrows And they hide the sun in their fingers They have the fear of darkness And accept the hunger They are my brothers Long years back They wanted to be like free birds I close my eyes Still it is raining My brothers They left like wild birds And many years later I made a poem for Africa A poem for Peace Whenever, it rains My brothers Remember my sadness
