The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
NO MORE HATRED ,DON'T BE OFFENDED. CAUSE IF YOU DO WORLD PIECE WILL BE UPENDED. OPEN YOUR DOORS AND OPEN YOUR HEARTS NO MORE WAR ,NO MORE HURT ,NO MORE DEAD. LAY DOWN YOUR ARMS AND COME INSIDE. COME IN PIECE ,COME IN GOOD FAITH LET NO ONE AGAIN HAVE TO HIDE. LORD BRING US PIECE AND LET US LOVE OUR BROTHERS ACROSS THE SEA AS WE LOVE OUR BROTHERS AT HOME. BECAUSE OF HATRED ,BECAUSE LIES PIECE DIES, LOOK IN YOUR HEARTS ,LOOK TO THE SKIES LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS NO NEED TO ASK WHY. HAVE LOVE IN YOUR HEART RIGHT FROM THE START. GIVE PIECE A CHANCE DON'T BE HATEFULL,DON'T BE VENGEFULL, DON'T BE OFFENED BECAUSE IF YOU DO WORLD PIECE WILL BE UPENDED.
