Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

"HEIWA" [平和]
A sudden thunderous bomb exploded
Wicked and outrageous act unfolded
An atmosphere of injustice and devastation exuded.
Innocent lives have been wasted
Physically and spiritually shattered
An excruciating and traumatic adversity rooted.
A prayer for healing and forgiveness
Let love and respect radiates
A converted life and relationship regenerates.
An enunciation of diplomacy & peace
Compassion and absolution dominates
Aspiration synchronizes and revitalizes.
