Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Dub it fate, or perhaps fortune
But within the walls of the abstract world,
Hibakusha carries an abrasion.
One by which is mightier than any exclamation
Thus, such hefty accusation whirls towards the skies.

Slightly leveling fingers
As to be resting on an amiss figure
Sakue Shimohira lingers on her day-to-day munch
Until, a flash of muscular rays shadows the world
The world of these robust fighters

Wickedness draws even the victims
A pull and drag to depression
Whereas I must say a confession
Consisting of these hails of cliché

To complain is to build,
Construction of such
Makes destruction touch souls.
It may come as a tap
Yet Hibakusha was squashed in its embrace.
