Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Atomic Bomb

Plenty of lives lost,
It almost seems so unreal,
There was plenty of fear,
Still today that day on August will be remembered,
Lives were lost that’s what you need to remember,
There are some people who can’t remember.
A tragic day which will remain in history,
Yes everyday is a new day,
But don’t forget on how many lives were lost and still hurt people today,
Don’t think all the lives were lost the day the atomic bomb striked,
Others were lost weeks, months, years after because radiation,
Some many emotions on this day,
Fear, guilt, shame,
And don’t forget about loneliness.
