Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The Horrible Day

August 6th.. A day of infamy in my country
My sister and I were survivors
We were lucky enough to have some shelter
If not we have hell to enter

I lost my family
My cousins
And my mother and my father
They whom were my mentors
And until this day i remember what a horrible day
The day of August 6th
I will remember through my whole life

I lost many of my friends
Many in which met lifes end
I am the person that will spend
Most of the time missing my friends
