Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

"Soul to Take"

Dementis bound
I'm just lookin' for solid ground
Death is a cloud hangin'
takin' in things I'll never see again

Left my aquatic home
left everything I've every known behind
gave my name to them
where the green grass grows
and the water flows

I've sailed my town
nothing much is still around
Death is a train coming
and it won't stop 'till we're underground

And when we've been forgotten
our echoes whisper in the breeze,
headed east...

We all fall the victims of ourselves
give my life inside the slaughterhouse
if I die before I wake, I pray
