Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Peace is hard to find.
The hibakusha try to find peace,
Even all that they have gone through.
They survived a nuclear bomb, which many people around them did not.
This disaster has brought catastrophe to their people,
But they still stand.
Peace can be found within these people.
They suffered lots of pain,
But they still stand.
As the years go by,
They still work to find peace with people.
Most of them now rest in peace,
Having found peace in heaven.
Peace will be found.
