The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Red, Purple, a burst of heat Transforms our world in an instant, Mushroom cloud of madness Assaults our senses, our being, Shattering illusions of innocence. Yet now, in reflection, My soul cries out for peace, "Don't got there!", it implores When minds turn to war, "Don't go THERE!" A touch, a smile, a baby born, Reminds of love, Of tenderness in forgiveness. My love for you is here, Within my heart. Join yours with mine, Create a new place For peaceful living.
