The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
In The Red Waves The sky is painted a bloody scarlet Red. Red. Red, Red with Blood... With our own blood Bodies laying on the ground Helpless.... Terrified A Young child calling for her mother Desperately Achingly What is the matter with us? What is the matter with mankind? Why destroy, Why slaughter? Why paint the grounds with the horrible shade of Red? Why not join hands Unite We are all people. We can all love and hurt Gather the magnificent shade of Love And Paint the World with Peace.
