Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

 I Am Not A Survivor
Here, Here is where i shall die
I cry! But my mouth is to dry
That light that I had seen
Why God? why do this to me?
 I am raw
  Yet i do not bleed
Water, water is all that I seek.
    Katsuji Yoshida,
A woman whispers in my ear
But I am not her son.
I do not wish this pain on anyone.
Those who survive will tell of this Hell
    But i?
            I will not survive
Who will tell of my great pain?
I wish them the best
They will have to live with these memories.
              Someone picks me up
  I am free!
Or at least thats what I used to be
           Now I am a slave
To these scars that I can not hide
They run to deep for me too keep.
and so i must go
so that my story can survive.
