Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Steadfast vigils have been observed for me.
Many proposals are on my table.
Yet, they make a scorn of me to my shame.
By their selfish deeds, life is unstable.
Will my lover ever hearken my call?
When will he play my tune as in ballads?
I still hope my stories will enthrall all
Like dear children enjoying mom’s salads.
Even solitude sings me an echo.
In this inquietude, I sing one more time
Hoping some, if not all, will re-echo
My heart’s appeal, and eschew every crime.
This day and always, heed my serenade,
And you will always appreciate my aid.
