Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

What if I could rid the world of nuclear weapons?

What if I could speak to a tree? What would I say?

What if I’m sorry for not protecting you or freeing you of your burdens?

What if I could appreciate buildings, parks and homes more?

What if I could protect Mother Nature and help plants be healthier?

What I could wonder about a world where being nice is normal
and giving apples to the hungry and homeless is too.

What if I recycled the entire environment?

What if I could give people food and new homes?

What if I’ll get a new job, some money and a new home? I would appreciate my life.
