Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Painful terror surrounding us
A horrendous river flowing,
Soon to be a pool of broken dreams
And silent goodbyes,
Hell was upon us
A glorious light that came uninvited ,
With thousands of unexpected surprises
Things that can never be unseen,
Things you can’t forget from night to dawn
The pain it came building up
Did I awaken?
Pitch black darkness that you couldn’t run away from.
When was it going to end
Our beloved ones now looking down on us
Few lost, few found
Dreadful days, dreadful nights
Yelling, tears, kisses, whishes, whispers, touches,
that will never be felt or heard ever again
When was this going to end...
