The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Loss After the howling the screaming the rage weeping sobbing curled in a ball hugging one's knees head bent into legs shutting out the realisation the thoughts of the awfulness out of one's mind, despair; life stares ahead of you dreary grey without passion without joy just tiredness pain but not just that you look at yourself look at your life wretchedness nothing left you try to remember memories of that person writing, pictures but though it reminds you you must return and remember what you have lost the families and friends left behind are also, greatly victims of war
