Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Millions of bloodshed, thousands of hearts shattered

Possessions of humanity ran away from their hands as crimson colored wine

When we all shouldâve stayed united, please never again let hate overcome our minds

The result? Black clouds of frustration and sorrow

Son of Dawn, that Lucifer, jumps for joy as if spreading
the demon within their minds and souls

Holy angels unleashed to lead these good spirits to a better path

Everything is over, suffering's done

The lives they could've lived, the lives they can't live

Those minds didn't hold pure sanity or feeling for the hearts that stopped beating

This hateful emotion bursting through a nuclear splash

How quickly lives slipped out of many hands in a matter of seconds

Literal flash blinding pupils

Lost, unaware like a poor child trying to find his birth mother

All danger racing around but only a breathing body can surely know the horror
