The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
My Feelings as the enemy... I knew it was wrong...... If I only thought more about it! I had to do it for my country It was my entire fault If I only hadn’t done it I can’t look at myself as a hero any longer I just can’t stop forgiving myself! The guilt is killing me! As I flew my way up I was getting ready to do it I was nervous when I was doing it, my thoughts battling in my head I should drop it! Should I? Knowing that these peoples life and death were in the matter of my fingertips Dropping it was the worst thing I have ever done Seeing everything get destroyed in matter of seconds What a life they could have had if only I hadn’t done it After the bomb fell everyone was yelling, it was a total wreck The scene keeps on repeating in my head As soon as the bomb fell, I knew I did the worst thing I could have done Trying to battle my tears I made my way back to my home place Some survived some didn’t Those innocent people... If I could go back in time and change what happened I would! I have to soon face the fact Yes, I was the awful bomber...........
