Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Peace is what we need now
Cruelty is not
Everyone should make this avow
Right on the spot

War doesn’t lead to anything
It just destroys everything
Fighting fire with fire creates a bigger fire
Causing our lives to fill with dire

We know this is true, but we still do this
That thought falls into an abyss
When we remember, it’s too late
The damage has been done, it’s our fate

We can never forget
If we do, it’s something we will regret
Mark my words
It will be heard

Though we can’t change society
This should be our number one priority
To keep peace alive
To have peace thrive

noted - thank you
