Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Scarlet, rain down clouds
sheathed white lay she
relieved souls,bearing down
battered bodies,unmourned,
decay by the dying trees

Reek of the stench, did she
vile, pungent, toxic
rear heads ugly, as did
interpretations gothic

In better times,
a muse to the prolific
hapless she now lay
chained with vicious ties
of angst and quest
her feeble whispers dying away
in the din of agonized shrieks
'bequest I, peace to thee
who seeks within'
'beseech thee, I do -
Let peace be, let peace be ,
                            let peace be...'
