Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima

Your tears impact us
Like a 20,000 lb atom bomb.
Now 50 years later
To discuss your fears and scares of this greater time.

Young Jungo working full time
At the Mitsubishi factory with no jokes or rhymes
He survived to age 70
Surviving near death

You saw gruesome deaths
Without one bet of survival
Like a fish out of water

But that bomb breathing heavily
Just as it impacted you
Hope was never lost

The one decision
Saving your life. We thank Christ
U survived the mushroom cloud
Now tell us your story loud!!!
