Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The way we live

The all of us are human beings-
We live in the same place.
But sometimes it really seems
That we'll die off due to disgrace.

Today some people kill the others
Without looking at the thing
That sins, commited by the fathers,
Already are the children's sins.

The world's seen twice how humans
Destroyed the cities with a bomb -
They made the millions of poor
Fellows to suffer, to pay with their lives.

To pay for what?! For being a man,
Or being a mother, being a woman?
How come that someone's cruel plan
Picks who's privileged or doomed now?

The greed, jealosity and money
Make people bring to others harm -
Techniques don't seem to be that funny -
At first small bombs, then the atomic ones.

One says we need some peace and love
To save the world from being wiped out.
Unfortunately, we see the people cry
From disappointment in their trials....

We don't get how our crazy actions
Have great impact on ourselves.
They turn a human to a savage -
A mammal deprived of any sense.
