Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

The Time of Peace has Gone

Death and decay are here.
Life is slowly ending now.
Light is no longer seen.
A whistling sound going by.
A shadow falling from the sky.
Heat and sound piercing the air,
life as we know it is no longer there.
The burning fire slowly dies.
From the rubble we emerge like flies.
Joining hands we look for others
finding Fathers, Children, and Mothers.
The time of peace has gone,
interrupted by deaths gong.
We will strive and push forward for peace again,
so here we are together walking hand in hand.
