The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Okaasan what’s that in the sky? It looks like a bird passing by. (Boom) Why can’t I see? Okaasan, don’t leave me! That memory haunts my life. That bomb was like a heinous thief. It pierced my essence with a knife. To even think about, brings me to grief. That thing that stripped me of my family, my future husband, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in law, does not deserve to do the same for another. Peace is the only solution for eachother.
